Apple’s new 9.7-inch iPad with Apple Pencil support – Launched

On 27 March in education event, Apple announced a new 9.7-inch iPad. With Retina display and all-day battery life, it helps students to work longer. The new iPad comes with an aluminum shell and features Apple’s A10 Fusion Chip which also powers the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus. The processor from Apple is built on a 64-bit architecture and 16nm process technology. It’s a quad-core processor but only two of them are high-performance cores, reaching a clock speed of 2.34GHz.

The new iPad is designed to focus on classrooms and students, it comes with support for Apple Pencil, which was first introduced with the iPad Pro. Its sensors can measure both pressure and tilt. Its Smart Annotation allows teachers to markup reports and Froggipedia, which lets students virtually frog in AR using the pencil.

Apple also announced updates to its iWork suite of apps including Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. The new update will allow users to add drawings and annotations to Keynote, Numbers, and Pages by just writing on the documents with the Apple Pencil. The Apple Pencil will not ship with the iPad. You need to buy it separately at Rs 7,600. The 2018 iPad features an 8MP rear shooter alongside a 1.2MP HD FaceTime camera at the front.


The 2018 iPad 9.7-inch will ship with iOS 11 onboard. iOS 11 on iPad brings enhanced multitasking, a customizable dock and seamless integration with Apple Pencil, ARKit.

In the event, Apple also introduced a new app called Schoolwork especially for iPad 9.7-inch. The Schoolwork app allows teachers to create assignments and keep track of student progress. The app has a Handouts feature which can be used to create and send assignments with almost any type of content, from web links to PDFs and documents. Apple ID will get access to 200GB of iCloud storage.

Apple will start selling the new iPad 9.7-inch in 25 countries starting this week. The device will be available in India, Russia, Thailand, Turkey and other countries and regions in April.


The new Apple iPad 9.7-inch will be available in silver, space gray and a new gold finish.
